Why # 5

"We do not consider ourselves a Christian nation or a Jewish nation or a Muslim nation," he said at the news conference. "We consider ourselves a nation of citizens who are bound by ideals and a set of values." President Obama, April 6, 2009

It bothers me that this proclamation is made by the president, and yet every morning we stand and say the Pledge of Allegiance in my class, and we still say "one nation under God". I know it was added later and so on and so forth, but I think the message given is a mixed message, to say the least.

Just for a thought.  Where do these ideals and values come from?

i'm really excited that there's a census coming up. i think it's going to be really interesting to see where we are/who we are as a nation. i'm especially curious to hear what they speculate about how many people aren't included, who isn't counted. i wonder: how much do we really know about ourselves?
